2 new elements!
In the year 2003, scientists in California discovered 2 new elements. They called them superhevies because of their large mass. They are numbers 113 and 115. When tested, they lasted a little more than a second. They then shipped them to Russia. The scientists in Russia found that every once in a while, a calcium ion fused with an americium ion. That's what got them the 115 icotope. The two new element names are ununtrium and ununpentium. Before they can be written to the periodic table, they have to go through further testing. Elements 113 and 115 are a way to show scientists that there are new elements to be found.

Scientists have found many new ways to help find new elements. Who knows what's coming next! New technology has helped them get this far!
ReplyDeleteYour post was very informative. I had no idea they'd found new elements so recently. I come from a family with a decent number of people in the science field, and I'm very interested in it as well, so the hope that one day, I could potentially discover a new element too is interesting (because it they're still finding them, that means there's more to find!).
