SEAHORSES: THE MONSTERS OF THE SEA

Seahorses are marvelous creatures. They have the name, hippocampus. Meaning monsters of the sea. Seahorses mate for their entire lives. They are the only species in the world where the male bears the unborn young. These fish can get up to .6 to 14 inches. The males have something in their front side called a brood pouch. That's where the female lays the eggs. The male keeps them there until birth. Seahorses often die of exhaustion when caught in waves. They propel themselves with fins on their back that flutter 35 times per second. Have you ever wondered why they have the curly tails? That's because they hook themselves onto rocks and coral to keep them from floating around in the waves. We need to protect the water. Pollution has caused seahorses to become almost extinct.

Because of all the litter and pollution in the ocean, seahorses have almost gone extinct. Seahorses like other sea animals need a clean, trash free environment. Seahorses rely on the rock and coral in the ocean. We also need to take care of that too. Remember, what might be trash to you, is poison to the sea animals.

2 new elements!

In the year 2003, scientists in California discovered 2 new elements. They called them superhevies because of their large mass. They are numbers 113 and 115. When tested, they lasted a little more than a second. They then shipped them to Russia. The scientists in Russia found that every once in a while, a calcium ion fused with an americium ion. That's what got them the 115 icotope. The two new element names are ununtrium and ununpentium. Before they can be written to the periodic table, they have to go through further testing. Elements 113 and 115 are a way to show scientists that there are new elements to be found.

Cinnamon: A New Way to Fight Cancer

Researchers say that cinnamon infused particles can fight cancer a safer way. Gold nano particles find and detect the cancer cells. But they are harmful. They require harsh chemicals. Researchers wanted to find a way to use green nano technology. They mixed gold salts and cinnamon together instead. Then they stirred it with water. The combination of nanoparticles and phyto chemicals enter the cancer cells and destroy them. This process takes no electricity and no harsh chemicals. The nano particles and the phyto chemicals react with the cancer cells. They called this the Pharmaceutical Research. Who knew that gold salt and cinnamon can fight cancer!

This research can really change the way we live. Without the harmful chemicals, this can fight cancer a safer way. This new technology will continue to grow and grow. The new discovery can really help people.
